Things To Do
Thank you for joining us from out of town and welcome to the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia). Please take some time to explore the area Sichen and Martekuor now call home.
Choose your own adventure:
I want to go outside!
Oh yeah! Late October should be near peak autumn colors for our area. Sounds like a great time to take a hike. Try Great Falls National Park or Shenandoah National Park .
For the less adventurous folks, visit the DC Zoo and Rock Creek Park in the city. We used to live across from the zoo and enjoying many walks to visit the pandas, contemplate the elephants, and meditate in the Bird House. The Zoo is part of a large park in the middle of the city. This is another great way to experience the autumn colors!
I need some history!
Good for you! Head east to DC and visit our nation’s capital. See the Washington Monument! Find your state at the World War II Memorial! Get caught in traffic because of a political official’s motorcade! There is lots to experience in the city.
Or head west to Harpers Ferry and learn about John Brown, the Civil War, and how the local rivers shaped DC’s economy and growth.
I need a museum!
Martekuor and Sichen are big fans of the Smithsonian Museum system. If you have time to head into DC, check out the American History Museum and the National Portrait Gallery - two of the couple’s favorites. Closer to the venue is the “other” Air and Space Museum at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. This hidden gem is even better than the DC version!
I want to go shopping!
If you are flying into Dulles or staying at the hotel blocks, you are very close to shopping centers at Tysons Corner Center and One Loudoun.
